Kollam: The Kollam Municipal Corporation has imposed a fine of ₹3.5 lakh on the CPI(M) for illegally installing 2,500 flags and 20 flex boards across the town in connection with its ongoing state conference. The civic body took action against the party for violating municipal regulations on unauthorized hoardings and banners.
The issue gained further attention as the Kerala High Court also criticized the excessive use of flex boards in the city, questioning why political parties repeatedly flout court orders regarding public space usage. The court stressed that such violations contribute to environmental pollution and urban clutter.
Authorities have warned that stricter action will be taken if the banners and flags are not removed immediately. The incident has sparked a debate over political parties disregarding municipal regulations, despite previous warnings and legal directives.
