New Delhi: With COVID-19 cases on the rise once again, the Indian government has sounded the alarm, urging all states to step up surveillance, readiness, and response measures. A high-level meeting chaired by the Union Ministry of Health reviewed the evolving situation and laid out critical action points to curb the spread.
As per the latest data from the Health Ministry, India is currently grappling with 3,758 active COVID cases, with Kerala emerging as the hotspot, reporting 1,400 infections. The state also reported a fresh fatality — a 24-year-old woman undergoing treatment succumbed to the virus on Sunday.
Maharashtra follows with 506 active cases, while Delhi, Gujarat, and Karnataka are also witnessing a steady uptick in new infections, raising fresh concerns.
Though authorities have stressed that the situation is not yet alarming, the Centre has issued urgent directives to all states and union territories to ensure adequate stock of medicines, oxygen, vaccines, and hospital beds.
COVID-19 testing is being ramped up across several states, with a renewed focus on enforcing health protocols and surveillance systems.
The Health Ministry reaffirmed that proactive steps are being taken to prevent escalation, assuring citizens that preparedness is being reviewed and upgraded regularly to meet any emerging challenges.
