Guruvayur, June 19 (IVC) Corban collection at the famous Sree Krishna temple here on June 17 Monday amounted to Rs 99.66 lakh , which is the single day record collection of corban, the Devaswom sources said. Two thousand and five hundred devotees paid for ghee lamp (Nei Vilakku) at the temple amounting to Rs 38 lakhs.
There was an unprecedented rush of devotees on June 16 and 17 and collection of corban on these two days were a record, the sources added. The average corban collection at the temple per day was estimated to be in between Rs 35 lakh and Rs 65 lakh. On Sundays and other notified holidays ,the average collection was about Rs 75 lakh per day, the sources said. The maximum corban collection recorded on May was Rs 83 lakh.
There was a long serpentine queue of devotees on June 17 and it took about five hours per devotee to enter inside the temple for offering prayers to the deity. The Deputy Administrator of the Devaswom, Pramod Kalarickal said that found that about 2500 devotees entered inside the temple in an hour. The time fixed for devotees to enter the temple and offer prayers is 10 hours per day.But on busy days , it was found that at least 25,000 devotees entered the temple aand offered prayers to the deity, Kalarickal added.
