Congress Second Candidate List Expected After Key Meeting

The Indian National Congress is set to announce the second phase of its candidate list for the Kerala Assembly elections soon. A meeting of the party’s Central Election Committee will be held today at 11:30 am, after which the next list is expected to be released.

Party sources said that constituencies where there are disputes over candidate selection or where multiple names are under consideration will be decided in the final phase.

Meanwhile, K. Sudhakaran is expected to address the media today. This comes after discussions within the party on whether Members of Parliament should contest in the Assembly elections, following the stand taken by the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC).

Senior leaders, including Ramesh Chennithala, met Sudhakaran in New Delhi to discuss the issue. Earlier, the Congress had released its first list of 55 candidates, which included nine women and 19 sitting MLAs. The party is continuing its preparations as it moves closer to finalising candidates for all constituencies.
