Centre Reviews Energy, Port Operations Amid West Asia Tensions

The Government of India on Sunday said it is closely monitoring developments in West Asia and has taken proactive measures to ensure stability across key sectors, including energy supply and port operations.

According to an official statement, the delivery of domestic LPG cylinders remains normal across the country, with panic bookings witnessing a decline. The government also increased the allocation of commercial LPG to states, prioritising essential sectors such as hospitals, educational institutions, and community kitchens.

Amid concerns following the reported closure of the Strait of Hormuz, authorities said all refineries in India are operating at high capacity with adequate crude stocks. There have been no reports of fuel shortages at retail outlets, and supplies of petrol and diesel continue uninterrupted.

To address pressure on LPG availability, the government has pushed for the expansion of piped natural gas (PNG) connections for both domestic and commercial users. States and Union Territories have been advised to fast-track approvals and facilitate new connections, while companies have been encouraged to prioritise key consumers.

The government also said enforcement actions, including raids, are ongoing across states and Union Territories to prevent LPG hoarding and black marketing.

Meanwhile, port operations across India remain normal, with no congestion reported. The Centre added that the safety and welfare of the Indian community in the Gulf region remains a top priority as the situation continues to evolve.
