Centre Open to Establishing AIIMS in Kerala, Says Prof. K V Thomas

The Central Government has shown a positive stance towards setting up an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Kerala, according to senior Congress leader and former MP Prof. K V Thomas. He stated that the Union Health Ministry is open to discussions with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan regarding the establishment of the premier medical institute in the state.

Prof. Thomas, who has been actively engaging with the Centre on this matter, emphasized that Kerala has been consistently demanding an AIIMS for years. He noted that the state government had previously proposed multiple locations, including Kozhikode, Ernakulam, and Thiruvananthapuram, as potential sites for the institute.

The Union Health Ministry has expressed interest in collaborating with the state to finalize a suitable location and framework for AIIMS. The move is expected to enhance Kerala’s medical infrastructure, strengthen healthcare services, and offer advanced treatment facilities to patients from across the state.

With AIIMS being a long-pending demand in Kerala, the latest developments bring hope that the Centre and state government will work together to expedite the project, ensuring world-class medical education and healthcare services for the region.
