CBSE Students Shine Nationwide, Lead in Academic Performance Across Grades: NCERT Survey

New Delhi: In a resounding endorsement of academic excellence, students in CBSE-affiliated schools have outperformed their peers from other educational boards across India, including Kerala, according to the latest PARAKH 2024 survey by NCERT. Covering over 21 lakh students from Grades 3, 6, and 9 in 36 states and union territories, the study reveals that CBSE students consistently demonstrate higher proficiency—especially in core subjects like mathematics, languages, science, and social science.

In Grade 3, CBSE students matched the national average (64% in languages, 60% in maths), but the distinction grew clearer in higher grades. In Grade 6, CBSE students scored significantly higher—59% in maths and 68% in languages—well above national averages of 46% and 57%, respectively. By Grade 9, the gap widened further, with CBSE students achieving 69% in language and outperforming national scores in maths (47% vs. 37%), science, and social science by up to 9 percentage points.

Kerala and Goa emerged as top-performing states among CBSE schools, while Puducherry and Sikkim trailed behind. The findings call attention to the need for state boards to upgrade learning standards and prioritize student-friendly environments. With over 3.97 lakh CBSE students and 14,000 teachers contributing to the data, the report highlights CBSE’s growing role in driving quality education and academic resilience across India.
