New Delhi: In a landmark decision to strengthen India’s healthcare system, the Union Cabinet has approved Phase 3 of the medical college upgrade project, clearing the addition of over 10,000 new MBBS and postgraduate seats nationwide.
Part of the Centre’s ambitious plan to add 75,000 medical seats in five years, the move is aimed at bridging the doctor shortage and expanding healthcare access, particularly in underserved regions.
The expansion will bring modern infrastructure, enhanced faculty strength, and advanced facilities to existing colleges—ensuring world-class training for future doctors.
Officials highlighted that this step will not only increase specialist availability but also boost research, innovation, and India’s preparedness for future health crises.
