Bomb Scare at Bombay Stock Exchange Triggers Panic; Police Suspect Hoax

The iconic Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) received a chilling bomb threat via email, prompting swift action from Mumbai Police and the bomb squad. The threatening message, claiming that four RDX IEDs were planted inside the BSE’s Feroze Tower building, sent shockwaves through the financial hub.

The email alleged the explosives would detonate at 3 PM, sparking a full-scale search operation. However, after an extensive sweep of the premises, authorities confirmed that no suspicious objects were found.

The threat was received through the official BSE website’s email channel but only came to the attention of officials on Monday, as the exchange remained closed on Sunday. The matter was immediately reported to the police.

Mumbai Police have registered a case under Sections 351(1)(b), 353(2), 351(3), and 351(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and have launched a full investigation. Preliminary findings suggest the threat was likely a hoax, though authorities are taking it seriously given similar threats in the past.

The incident has raised concerns over the security of major financial institutions and prompted calls for enhanced cyber and physical threat monitoring.
