The central government will roll out a FASTag-based annual toll pass starting August 15, replacing the traditional toll payment system for private vehicles across national highways.
Announced by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, the new system offers an annual pass for ₹3,000, which will cover either 200 highway trips or one full year of travel — whichever comes first. Commercial vehicles will not be included in this scheme.
The initiative is designed to make highway travel faster, smoother, and more economical, significantly reducing waiting times at toll booths. The pass can be easily activated and renewed through the Rajmarg Yatra app and the official websites of NHAI and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
With this move, the government hopes to streamline toll collection, cut down congestion, and improve the overall driving experience on India’s national highways.
