Kochi: As part of New Year celebrations, the Kerala government has granted relaxation in the operating hours of bars. On Wednesday, December 31, bars will be permitted to remain open until midnight. The operating hours of beer and wine parlours have also been extended. A government order announcing the relaxation has been issued.
The decision was taken in view of the expected influx of tourists during the New Year celebrations. This is the first time the state has extended bar operating hours specifically for New Year festivities. However, there will be no change in the working hours of BEVCO outlets, which will continue to function only until 9 pm.
Normally, bars in the state operate from 10 am to 11 pm. With the new order, a one-hour extension has been granted. Several bars across the state have made elaborate arrangements to welcome the New Year with special celebrations.
