Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has revised the Bakrid (Eid al-Adha) holiday date to Saturday, June 7, 2025, based on the lunar calendar and traditional moon sighting. The holiday was initially scheduled for Friday, June 6.
In response to this change, banks in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi will remain closed on June 6 (Friday). Meanwhile, June 7 (Saturday) will be observed as a holiday for Bakrid across most of India. However, banks in cities like Ahmedabad, Gangtok, Itanagar, Kochi, and Thiruvananthapuram will remain open on June 7, since it falls on the first working Saturday of the month.
While schools, colleges, and government offices are expected to close on June 7 for Bakrid, the stock markets (NSE & BSE) will remain open on both June 6 and 7, as Bakrid is not listed as an official trading holiday.
Citizens are advised to stay updated with local notifications for any changes in public or banking schedules.
