Ayush Ministry Highlights Menopausal Health on World Menopause Day

NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Ayush on Sunday highlighted the importance of awareness, preventive care and comprehensive healthcare for women on World Menopause Day, observed on October 18.

Through the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), the ministry aims to promote awareness of menopause and its impact on women’s physical health, emotional well-being and quality of life.

Menopause is a natural biological process that usually occurs between the ages of 45 and 55. Symptoms may include irregular periods, hot flushes, sleep disturbances, mood changes, joint pain and anxiety.

Ayush Secretary Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha stressed the importance of preventive care, healthy lifestyle practices and individualised treatment. CCRAS Director General Prof. Rabinarayan Acharya said the council was researching traditional Ayurvedic formulations to assess their potential benefits for menopausal health. Deputy Director General Dr N. Srikanth highlighted the role of diet, yoga, meditation and emotional support.

The ministry said Ayurveda offers a holistic approach to managing menopausal symptoms through dietary guidance, lifestyle modifications, yoga and traditional therapies. It also emphasised the need for scientific research to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of these approaches.

The ministry called for greater awareness, open discussions and timely healthcare to help women navigate menopause and maintain their overall well-being.
