Malappuram: In a powerful political comeback for the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), Aryadan Shoukath clinched a decisive victory in the Nilambur Assembly by-election, winning by a margin of 11,005 votes. The result sends a strong anti-incumbency message to the ruling CPI(M)-led LDF government in Kerala.
Calling it a “victory for the people of Kerala,” Shoukath said the outcome reflects the growing dissatisfaction across the state with the Pinarayi Vijayan government. “Nilambur has echoed the voice of a restless Kerala,” he said after the win.
The victory is a major morale boost for the UDF in Malappuram, where the LDF had been steadily gaining ground. With a voter turnout exceeding 75%, the bypoll result is seen as a political bellwether that could shape future electoral strategies for both major alliances.
As the UDF celebrates a reclaimed seat, the LDF faces pressure to reassess its political standing amid rising public discontent.
