Putting an end to swirling rumours, organisers have confirmed that the Argentina “A” team will visit Kerala next month for a highly anticipated friendly match against Australia. The fixture is slated to take place on November 17 at Kochi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, as part of the official FIFA November window.
The Reporter Broadcasting Company, the official organiser and sponsor of the event, clarified that there is “no information on any cancellation or relocation” of the Kerala leg. “The Argentina visit is confirmed, and all documentation and financial arrangements are complete,” the company said in a statement.
Tickets for the match will go on sale from October 25 via a major booking platform, organisers announced. Meanwhile, the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kaloor is undergoing extensive renovation ahead of the big game — including the installation of new floodlights, improved seating, upgraded security systems, and compound wall repairs. The renovation work, costing around ₹70 crore, is being overseen by local authorities, with police, fire, and district administration teams coordinating preparations.
Earlier, several international reports — particularly from Argentine media outlet TyC Sports — had suggested that the India leg might be cancelled or moved to Morocco or Africa. However, organisers have dismissed those reports as baseless, reaffirming that Kerala remains on the schedule.
The Kerala Sports Minister also weighed in, confirming that the event is “back on track” and that the sponsor has fulfilled all required payments.
Fans will now eagerly await confirmation from the Argentina Football Association (AFA) and the final squad list — with hopes high that Lionel Messi could feature in the Kerala match. All eyes are also on whether ticket sales proceed as scheduled on October 25, and if stadium upgrades are completed in time for the historic encounter.
