Prakash Raj to Lead Kerala State Film Awards Jury; 128 Films Compete for Top Honours

Thiruvananthapuram: Renowned actor and filmmaker Prakash Raj has been appointed as the chairperson of the jury for the Kerala State Film Awards 2024, marking another milestone in his illustrious career that spans over three decades across Indian cinema.

According to the announcement by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, a total of 128 films have been submitted for consideration this year. Jury screenings will commence on October 6, setting the stage for one of the most prestigious film evaluations in the country.

The awards jury features a two-tier structure with two preliminary sub-committees, headed by acclaimed directors Ranjan Pramod and Jibu Jacob, who will also serve on the final jury panel.

Joining Prakash Raj on the main jury are prominent industry figures — Bhagyalakshmi (dubbing artist), Gayathri Asokan (playback singer), Nithin Lukose (sound designer), and Santhosh Echikkanam (writer and screenwriter).

For the writing on cinema category, Madhu Eravankara will chair the jury, with A. Chandrasekhar and Vineetha Vijayan as members. C. Ajoy, Secretary of the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, will serve as member secretary for all jury panels.

Known for his versatility and cinematic insight, Prakash Raj’s inclusion as jury chief has been widely welcomed by the film fraternity. The actor, who has worked extensively in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi cinema, is expected to bring a balanced and discerning perspective to the selection process.

With screenings about to begin, anticipation is building within the industry to see which films will make the final cut and ultimately claim top honours at the Kerala State Film Awards 2024.
