Kollam: The Kerala government on Saturday honoured spiritual leader Mata Amritanandamayi (Amma) on the silver jubilee of her historic address in Malayalam at the United Nations General Assembly, a moment celebrated as a global showcase of the language’s cultural strength. The felicitation took place at the Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham campus in Amritapuri, during the grand Amritavarsham 72 birthday celebrations.
Cultural Affairs Minister Saji Cherian lauded Amma for taking Kerala’s cultural values to the world through her mother tongue, calling it a powerful message to those who neglect their native language. In her response, Amma dedicated the honour to Malayalam itself, urging parents to inspire their children to embrace and promote their mother tongue.
The event was attended by MLAs C.R. Mahesh and Uma Thomas, BJP state vice-president Dr. K.S. Radhakrishnan, IG Laxman Guguloth, Kerala Law Academy Director Nagaraj Narayanan, and actor Devan. Senior disciples including Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri and Swamini Suvidyamritaprana also addressed the gathering.
