Heavy Showers Ahead for Kerala: IMD Issues Yellow Alert in Several Districts

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is set to experience spells of heavy rain over the next few days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) placing multiple districts under yellow alert.

On Tuesday, the alert covers Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod, where isolated heavy rainfall is expected. The weather department warns that showers could intensify as a cyclonic circulation over the northwest Bay of Bengal, near the Odisha–West Bengal coast, is likely to strengthen into a low-pressure system.

According to IMD, heavy rainfall refers to showers ranging between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours.

District-wise Alerts

  • Wednesday: Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod
  • Thursday: Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod
  • Friday: Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod

With widespread light to moderate showers and the possibility of isolated heavy spells, residents are advised to remain cautious through the week.
