Gold Loses Shine: Prices Slip Below ₹74,500 After Record-Breaking Rally

Kochi: After days of glittering gains, gold prices cooled off slightly on Monday, slipping ₹80 per sovereign (8 grams) to ₹74,440. The rate per gram also eased by ₹10, now at ₹9,305.

The dip comes just a day after gold surged ₹800 per sovereign, briefly crossing the ₹74,500 mark and reviving hopes of a new record. Earlier this month, the yellow metal scaled an all-time high of ₹75,760, before shedding nearly ₹2,300 over 12 days in a volatile run.

Starting the month at ₹73,200 per sovereign, prices had climbed more than ₹2,500 within a week, only to retreat again from August 9. Experts say global cues—particularly the U.S. tariff hike on Indian imports—continue to drive the swings in domestic gold markets.
