Air India Clarifies Chennai Emergency Landing: ‘Go-Around, Not a Runway Scare’

Chennai: Air India has clarified details surrounding the dramatic diversion of its Thiruvananthapuram–Delhi flight to Chennai, assuring passengers that safety was never compromised.

According to the airline, the initial landing was aborted on the advice of Air Traffic Control (ATC) after the aircraft temporarily lost radar contact — not because another plane was on the runway, as some reports suggested.

“This was simply a go-around. Our pilots are fully trained to manage such situations,” Air India stated, adding that the technical glitch was swiftly fixed and the aircraft made a safe landing.

The incident occurred on flight AI 2455 carrying 160 passengers, including Kerala MPs K.C. Venugopal, Adoor Prakash, Kodikunnil Suresh, and K. Radhakrishnan, along with Tirunelveli MP Robert Bruce. All passengers were later flown to Delhi on a replacement aircraft.

Kodikunnil Suresh MP later confirmed via Facebook that every passenger was safe, easing concerns after the unexpected mid-journey drama.
