Kerala Braces for Scattered Rains and Strong Winds; IMD Issues Yellow Alerts and Sea Warnings

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is set to witness continued scattered rainfall and gusty winds today, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting light showers across all districts. While no district has been placed under immediate warning today, wind speeds may touch up to 40 km/h in parts of the state.

Starting tomorrow, the intensity of rain is expected to pick up, prompting yellow alerts in several districts: Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Thrissur on Saturday (August 2); Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and Idukki on Sunday (August 3); and Idukki, Malappuram, Kannur, and Kasaragod on Monday (August 4).

Meanwhile, the coastal belts of Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep are likely to face rough seas and strong winds blowing at speeds of 45–55 km/h, occasionally gusting up to 65 km/h. As a precaution, the IMD has banned fishing activities along the Lakshadweep coast till August 4 and along the Karnataka coast until August 2 and again on August 4.

Fisherfolk have been strongly advised to avoid venturing into the sea during this period as inclement weather conditions are expected to persist.
