Heavy Rain to Continue Across Kerala; Yellow Alert Issued in 12 Districts

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued heavy rainfall across Kerala, issuing a yellow alert in 12 districts for today. The districts under alert include Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod.

A cyclonic circulation over southern Odisha is currently influencing weather patterns, and a new low-pressure area is likely to form over the northern Bay of Bengal by Thursday (July 25). As a result, widespread rainfall is expected in Kerala from July 21 to 25, according to the IMD.

The department has also warned of strong winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 km/h at isolated locations across the state during this period.The rainfall is expected to be isolated but intense, with the IMD defining “heavy rain” as rainfall measuring between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours. Residents are advised to stay alert and follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities.
