Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Health Department has placed 675 individuals under surveillance across various districts after they were identified as part of the contact list linked to recent Nipah virus cases. The move comes as part of intensified efforts to contain the spread of the deadly virus.
All individuals on the contact list are being closely monitored for symptoms, and necessary precautionary measures including isolation, testing, and health check-ups are being undertaken. Most of the high-risk contacts are from the affected zones, where containment protocols have already been enforced.
Health Minister Veena George said that the state has ramped up its preparedness by deploying medical teams, setting up isolation wards, and ensuring the availability of protective equipment and antiviral drugs in critical areas.
Rapid Response Teams have been activated, and district health officials have been directed to remain on high alert. Public awareness campaigns are also being conducted to educate citizens on symptoms, preventive practices, and the importance of reporting any flu-like illness immediately.
While no new cases have been confirmed in the past 24 hours, authorities remain cautious given the highly contagious nature of the Nipah virus. The Health Department has urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel to containment zones and to follow hygiene protocols strictly.
The government continues to coordinate with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and other central agencies for expert support and updated testing strategies.
