Thiruvananthapuram – In a major organisational milestone, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday inaugurated the BJP’s brand-new Kerala State Committee office—Mararji Bhavan—in Thiruvananthapuram. The state-of-the-art seven-storey building, rooted in traditional nalukettu architecture, covers over 60,000 sq. ft. and sits on land acquired by the party 25 years ago in Thycaud.
Kicking off the ceremony, Shah hoisted the party flag, planted a kanikkonna (golden shower) sapling, and lit a traditional lamp in front of bronze statues of BJP ideologues Syama Prasad Mookerjee and Deendayal Upadhyaya. He also unveiled a bronze bust of veteran leader and former BJP state president K.G. Marar, for whom the headquarters is named.
Mararji Bhavan is being seen as a political nerve centre that symbolizes the BJP’s growing ambitions in Kerala. The facility is equipped to serve as a command hub for future elections, public outreach, and strategy building.
Soon after the inauguration, Shah addressed the “Viksit Keralam Sammelan”, a massive leadership conclave at Putharikandam Maidan. Over 25,000 booth-level functionaries from Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Alappuzha gathered in person, while 1.5 lakh party workers from 10 other districts joined virtually.
Top BJP leaders including Kerala State President Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Union Minister George Kurian, BJP Kerala in-charge Prakash Javadekar, and party veterans K. Surendran, V. Muraleedharan, Kummanam Rajasekharan, and O. Rajagopal attended the event.
With the inauguration of Mararji Bhavan and an assertive leadership drive, the BJP signaled a clear intent to significantly bolster its presence in Kerala’s political landscape.
