Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is set to experience five consecutive days of heavy rainfall, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued yellow alerts across multiple districts. The downpour is attributed to a low-pressure system over the Gangetic plains of West Bengal, which is expected to drift westward toward Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, intensifying rain across the state.
According to IMD, isolated heavy rainfall, ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours, is likely across several districts. Kannur and Kasaragod are on alert for Wednesday and Thursday, followed by Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, alerts expand to include Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod.
Adding to the concerns, the IMD has also warned of strong winds clocking 40–50 kmph in isolated areas, particularly through Friday. Residents in vulnerable regions have been urged to exercise caution, limit unnecessary travel, and stay updated with official advisories as the state navigates a spell of turbulent weather.
