Shailaja Teacher Outshines Pinarayi in CM Popularity Poll; Is Kerala Ready for Its First Woman Chief Minister?

Thiruvananthapuram: In a striking shift in public sentiment, a new opinion poll by Vote Vibe has revealed that K.K. Shailaja, the former Health Minister and CPM Central Committee member, is now the most preferred candidate for Kerala’s Chief Minister post, ahead of incumbent Pinarayi Vijayan. The survey shows only 17.5% support for Pinarayi, while 24.2% of respondents back Shailaja Teacher, signaling strong public favor for the Kannur-based leader who gained national praise during the pandemic but was controversially excluded from the second Pinarayi cabinet.

Other prominent names featured in the survey include M.A. Baby (5.8%), P.A. Mohammed Riyas (5.3%), K. Radhakrishnan (3.6%), and M.V. Govindan (2%), while a significant 41.5% remained undecided or preferred others. The results have triggered political buzz over whether Kerala is on the brink of welcoming its first woman Chief Minister, as calls for new leadership grow louder within the Left Democratic Front.
