Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan Heads to U.S. for Medical Review Amid Mounting Pressure on State Health System

Thiruvananthapuram- Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is set to depart for the United States tomorrow morning for a 10-day medical check-up at the renowned Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. This marks his third visit to the facility, following similar trips in 2018 and 2022. He will be accompanied by his wife, Kamala, and will travel via Dubai.

The timing of the visit has drawn public and political attention, coming on the heels of a tragic building collapse at Kottayam Medical College and growing criticism over Kerala’s healthcare infrastructure. However, officials clarified that the trip is a pre-scheduled medical follow-up, unrelated to the current controversies.

While in the U.S., the Chief Minister is expected to undergo a full set of health evaluations. The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) has assured that regular updates will be provided regarding his treatment and return schedule.

Vijayan’s departure comes as the opposition sharpens its criticism, demanding accountability in the wake of healthcare-related incidents across the state. His absence during this turbulent time adds to the political tension, even as his office urges the public to view the trip purely as a health necessity.
