Thrissur: The Guruvayur Temple has made it compulsory to present an original Aadhaar card to receive tokens for special darshan. The decision follows reports of individuals collecting tokens and handing them over to others, bypassing the intended system.
As per the new guidelines, only the person whose name is registered for the darshan can collect the token by showing their original Aadhaar card at the temple’s Gopuram (main entrance) office. However, if a group is visiting, just one Aadhaar card from the group is sufficient.
Even those visiting with recommendations from Devaswom Board staff are not exempt—Aadhaar verification is now mandatory for all. The rule has been enforced based on a recent resolution passed by the temple’s administrative board.
Temple authorities stated that the Aadhaar requirement is aimed at maintaining fairness and ensuring that special darshan privileges reach only the genuine devotees who have registered for it.
