Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala has emerged as the state with the highest percentage of working women earning fixed salaries, according to the latest data from the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS). Nearly 50% of employed women in Kerala receive regular wages or fixed salaries, significantly higher than the national average.
This trend reflects the state’s strong emphasis on education, gender empowerment, and employment opportunities in organized sectors. Compared to other states, where a large proportion of working women are engaged in informal or self-employed jobs, Kerala’s workforce structure shows a shift towards more stable employment.
Experts attribute this to the high literacy rate among women in Kerala, the presence of a large number of women in the public sector, and the growing opportunities in IT, healthcare, and education. Additionally, the state’s progressive labor policies and social security measures have contributed to better working conditions and income security for women.
However, challenges remain, including a lower overall labor force participation rate among women compared to men, and the need for more women to enter leadership roles. Despite these concerns, Kerala continues to lead the way in ensuring financial stability for its female workforce.
