Dhanush Takes Legal Action Against Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan Over Netflix Documentary Footage

Chennai: In a surprising legal twist, actor-producer Dhanush has filed a civil suit against actress Nayanthara and filmmaker Vignesh Shivan, accusing them of using footage from his 2015 hit production Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in Nayanthara’s Netflix documentary without proper authorization. The documentary, which offers an intimate look into Nayanthara’s life and career, is currently streaming on Netflix.

The issue arose after segments from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, produced under Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films banner, were featured in the documentary. Dhanush alleges that the use of this material violated copyright laws and undermined the rights of his production house.

In response, Dhanush has sought financial damages and a temporary injunction to halt the documentary’s streaming until the disputed footage is removed. Legal representatives for the actor argue that permission was neither sought nor granted for the use of the scenes, sparking this unexpected legal battle.

Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, directed by Vignesh Shivan and starring Nayanthara alongside Vijay Sethupathi, was a critical and commercial triumph, marking a significant milestone in the careers of those involved. This has made the inclusion of its footage a sensitive issue.

So far, neither Nayanthara, Vignesh Shivan, nor Netflix has issued an official statement on the lawsuit. However, industry insiders hint at ongoing negotiations to resolve the dispute amicably.

Meanwhile, the documentary has continued to garner attention and praise for its honest portrayal of Nayanthara’s journey to superstardom and her personal life with Vignesh Shivan. Despite the controversy, it remains a trending title on Netflix.

This legal development has added fresh intrigue to an already captivating story, leaving fans eagerly waiting to see how the situation unfolds.
