The Indian government has approved a significant financial aid of Rs. 153 crore to support relief and rehabilitation efforts in Wayanad, Kerala, following the devastating landslide in July 2024. This funding will primarily go towards debris clearance and covering the costs of Indian Air Force (IAF) operations, which played a crucial role in the rescue and recovery process.
The landslide, caused by heavy rainfall, led to the destruction of entire villages, with more than 400 families stranded due to the collapse of a vital bridge. The IAF had deployed helicopters and transport aircraft to evacuate people, deliver relief materials, and assist in the restoration of infrastructure. The landslide resulted in significant loss of life and property.
The Centre’s approval of this financial assistance is essential to ensure continued support for the ongoing recovery work in the region.
