India-China relations are entering a “new starting point,” according to Beijing, following discussions between Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The meeting, held on the sidelines of an international summit, represents a renewed effort by the two countries to stabilize their relationship amidst lingering challenges.
Among the key topics was the resumption of direct flights between India and China, halted during the COVID-19 pandemic. Both ministers expressed hope for enhancing people-to-people connections and restoring normal travel operations.
The dialogue also delved into broader bilateral and regional concerns, particularly tensions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the border areas and emphasized the importance of sustained diplomatic and military-level engagement to address unresolved issues.
While the meeting reflects a willingness to prioritize dialogue, long-standing challenges such as trust deficits and the border standoff remain unresolved.
