The Indian Railways is witnessing an unprecedented surge in train bookings to Kerala due to the simultaneous rush for the Sabarimala pilgrimage and the Christmas holiday season. With limited seats available, travelers are advised to book early, as many trains on major routes from across India to Kerala are fully booked for the next 60 days.
To address this, the Railways has rolled out additional special trains, including those specifically for the Sabarimala pilgrimage, as well as new Vande Bharat services between Chennai and Kottayam. These special services are designed to accommodate the increased influx of passengers, operating multiple times a week in December. The Vande Bharat trains will run on Fridays and Sundays during peak travel times, with stops at key stations.
As the demand continues to rise, especially around festival dates, travelers are urged to explore alternative routes or plan their trips on different dates to avoid inconvenience.
