Chennai: Heavy rainfall continued across several parts of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday, causing waterlogging in low-lying areas and uprooting trees. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast further rainfall over the next two days following the formation of a low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal.
Heavy to very heavy showers that began on Tuesday persisted through the night, with Chennai bearing the brunt of the downpour. MGR Nagar recorded the highest rainfall in the city at 15 cm, while several other neighbourhoods in and around the state capital received between 10 and 15 cm.
Intermittent rainfall continued in various parts of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday, disrupting normal life in some areas.
In view of the prevailing weather conditions, authorities declared a holiday for schools in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu districts.
The IMD has advised residents to remain alert as the weather system is expected to bring more rain to the region over the coming days.
