Centre Reviews Implementation of Forest Rights Act in Eight States

Kolkata: The Ministry of Tribal Affairs held its second regional review conference on the implementation of the Forest Rights Act (FRA), 2006, in Kolkata on October 9, bringing together officials from eight states to assess progress and address pending claims.

The conference was attended by senior officials from the tribal welfare, revenue and forest departments, and Tribal Research Institutes of West Bengal, Assam, Tripura, Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. District officials from areas with a large backlog of claims also participated.

Officials from Andhra Pradesh were invited to share the state’s practices in digitising forest rights titles, integrating them into government records and linking beneficiaries with livelihood schemes and credit facilities.

The meeting followed the first regional review conference for southern states, held in Bengaluru on September 10, 2026.
