Kozhikode: A seven-day-old baby girl has been named Nethra after she was received at the Ammathottil at the Government Beach Hospital in Kozhikode on the occasion of World Sight Day, officials said on Friday.
The infant was found in the cradle after its alarm went off at around 5.30 pm on Thursday. Hospital staff rushed to the spot and took charge of the baby, officials said.
Ammathottil, meaning “mother’s cradle”, is an automated electronic cradle initiative of the Kerala government, operated by the Kerala State Council for Child Welfare. It provides a safe and confidential alternative to abandoning infants in unsafe circumstances.
