New Delhi: The Centre has decided to send teams to Karnataka and Maharashtra to assess the drought situation in the two states, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Monday.
Speaking at a two-day national conference on preparations for the upcoming rabi season, Chouhan said the impact of climate change was becoming increasingly evident, with the recently concluded kharif season also affected by changing weather conditions.
A central team will visit Karnataka on October 3 to assess the drought situation, the minister said. He added that a similar team would be sent to Maharashtra following discussions with the state’s Chief Minister.
Chouhan also said he would personally visit states affected by the crisis along with his team to review the situation and assess the challenges faced by farmers.
The Centre’s assessment is expected to help determine the extent of the drought and the assistance required in the affected regions.
