Dharapuram: Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, Udhayanidhi Stalin, on Saturday criticised the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), alleging that the government had failed to fulfil several of its poll promises and that the state’s law-and-order situation had deteriorated.
Addressing an election campaign meeting in support of TVK candidate S Suganya in Dharapuram, Udhayanidhi alleged that the party’s legislators were more focused on praising Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay than on addressing issues concerning governance and the people.
He also accused the TVK of inducting members from other political parties through questionable means, comparing the process to ordering a sofa through a delivery application.
Udhayanidhi alleged that several promises made by the TVK during the elections remained unfulfilled. These included financial assistance for women, free cooking gas cylinders, unemployment assistance and a complete waiver of agricultural loans for farmers.
The Dharapuram Assembly constituency is scheduled to go to a bypoll on October 6.
