New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the deadline for filing claims and objections under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Delhi and Maharashtra.
In Delhi, the deadline has been extended to October 30, 2026, while disposal of notices, claims and objections has been extended to November 30. In Maharashtra, the corresponding deadlines are October 12 and November 10, respectively.
The Commission said Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit the homes of electors who receive notices over unmapped entries or logical discrepancies to collect documents. Such electors will generally not be required to appear before EROs, with hearings to be held only in exceptional cases, preferably online.
The ECI also directed District Election Officers to establish help desks and special camps for vulnerable groups, including homeless people, labourers and those living in night shelters.
The Commission said SIR has been completed in 20 States and Union Territories, including Bihar and West Bengal. Electors left out of the rolls, including young and first-time voters, can apply for inclusion through continuous updation.
The decisions were taken at the Commission’s meeting held on September 26, 2026 and approved by the full Commission.
