Nearly one in three voters in Delhi has been excluded from the draft electoral roll released on Monday as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.Of the nearly 1.45 crore voters on the existing rolls, more than 47 lakh names have not been included in the draft list, according to data released by the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer’s office.
Officials said more than 43.32 lakh voters were found to have either shifted from their registered addresses or remained absent during the SIR exercise.The draft roll also identified over 2.82 lakh deceased voters, while more than 1.41 lakh voters were found to be registered at multiple locations.
Delhi has recorded the highest proportion of deletions at the draft stage, with around 33 per cent of voters excluded, among the states and Union Territories where the SIR exercise has been undertaken, officials said.
Voters who believe their names have been wrongly excluded can submit claims and objections until September 30. The electoral authorities will examine the submissions before finalising the revised electoral roll.
