New Delhi: The Sports Ministry on Saturday approved a 492-member Indian athletes’ contingent for the upcoming Asian Games in Japan, with athletics accounting for the largest share with 73 athletes.
The approved contingent comprises 265 male and 227 female athletes, reflecting a strong representation across various sporting disciplines.
The Asian Games will be held in Aichi-Nagoya from September 19 to October 4.
The Ministry has not yet released the list of support staff who will accompany the Indian athletes to the continental multi-sport event.
India is expected to field athletes across several disciplines as it looks to build on its performances at previous editions of the Asian Games.
