Siliguri: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday criticised former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the delay in fencing the India-Bangladesh border, saying neither the state nor the country can remain safe without secure frontiers.
Amit Shah alleged that his repeated requests to the state government to provide land for border fencing had not received a positive response.
He also attacked the Congress over the rendition and recognition of Vande Mataram, claiming that successive governments after Independence had failed to give the national song its due importance.
At a separate event, Shah accused the Banerjee government of delaying the implementation of the new criminal laws in West Bengal.
