New Delhi: The Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicine & Homoeopathy (PCIM&H), Ministry of Ayush, and the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, on Wednesday renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to implement the ‘One Herb, One Standard’ initiative.
The renewed three-year agreement aims to develop uniform, scientifically robust quality standards for plant-based medicines used across Ayurveda, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa, Unani and Homoeopathy systems.
The MoU was exchanged by PCIM&H Director-in-Charge Dr Kousthubha Upadhyaya and IPC Secretary-cum-Scientific Director Dr V. Kalaiselvan in the presence of Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush and Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Prataprao Ganpatrao Jadhav and Ayush Secretary Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha.
Jadhav said harmonised standards would improve the quality, purity and credibility of traditional medicines, streamline regulatory processes and support ease of doing business. The standards will incorporate Indian and international quality requirements to enhance the global acceptance of Indian medicinal plants and products.
The collaboration builds on an MoU initiated in 2022, under which 50 medicinal plant monographs were developed during the first phase. The renewed partnership will further harmonise standards across traditional medicine systems while supporting biodiversity conservation and India’s role in global medicinal plant standardisation.
