Wayanad: The company executing the road tunnel project at Kalladi has been directed to provide both immediate and long-term financial assistance to the families of those killed and injured in the July 7 landslide, Kerala Agriculture Minister T. Siddique said on Sunday.
Eight people lost their lives in the landslide that occurred near the construction site of the Kalladi road tunnel project, which is being developed to improve connectivity between Wayanad and Kozhikode districts.
Speaking after a review meeting held at the Wayanad Collectorate, Siddique said the state government had instructed the project company to extend compensation and sustained financial support to the affected families.
The minister also directed the company to clear the debris caused by the landslide and remove the soil that had been dumped at the construction site as part of the tunnel work within three days.
The review meeting assessed the ongoing rescue and relief efforts as well as the measures required to ensure public safety and prevent similar incidents during the execution of the project.
The Kerala government has also initiated an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the landslide to determine its causes and examine whether safety and environmental norms were followed during the construction work.
