New Delhi: Congress General Secretary Randeep Surjewala on Friday accused the Centre of projecting “false bravado” and presenting “half-baked truths” over the implementation of ethanol-blended fuel, alleging significant policy gaps in the rollout of E20 petrol and the proposed introduction of 15 per cent methanol-blended diesel.
In a post on X, Surjewala claimed that recent interviews and press conferences by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari had exposed what he described as the government’s attempt to confuse the public with technical jargon instead of addressing key concerns.
The Congress leader said the issue has raised genuine concerns among India’s 36 crore registered vehicle owners, who are seeking clarity on the compatibility of vehicles, fuel standards, and the implementation timeline.
Surjewala alleged that the government’s approach lacks clear policy direction and called for greater transparency to ensure that consumers are adequately informed about the transition to alternative fuel blends.
