Thiruvananthapuram: Pinarayi Vijayan has called the landslide at the tunnel construction site in Wayanad a deeply tragic and shocking incident, stressing that the immediate priority is to continue rescue operations and provide urgent medical assistance to the injured.
He said all necessary steps must be taken to rescue those believed to be trapped beneath the debris and expressed support for the ongoing efforts of the state government and the disaster management authorities.
Expressing condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, Vijayan said the victims’ dependants should be provided financial assistance without delay. He also urged the government to ensure free specialised medical treatment and compensation for those injured in the disaster.
He further demanded a serious investigation into whether there had been any lapses or negligence on the part of the authorities concerned that may have contributed to the incident.
