THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for five districts in Kerala on Tuesday in view of the possibility of heavy rainfall.
The alert has been declared for Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts.
According to the IMD, isolated heavy showers are likely in Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod. Strong winds with speeds of up to 50 kmph are also expected in these districts.
Heavy rain on Monday caused damage in several parts of the state. The roof of the South Government Higher Secondary School in Kanhangad was blown off during the downpour, following which the school declared a holiday on Tuesday.
In a separate rain-related incident, a couple was injured after a school compound wall collapsed in Aroor, Alappuzha.
