Jakarta: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Jakarta on Monday on the first leg of his three-nation visit to Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand, where he was accorded a ceremonial welcome by the Indonesian government.
In a special diplomatic gesture, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto personally received Prime Minister Modi at the airport. The Prime Minister’s aircraft was also escorted by Indonesian Air Force fighter jets after entering the country’s airspace.

Upon his arrival, Modi witnessed a traditional cultural performance before commencing his official engagements in the Indonesian capital.
Expressing his appreciation, the Prime Minister said he was touched by President Prabowo’s warm welcome at the airport. He noted that India and Indonesia elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2018, which has strengthened cooperation and benefited the people of both nations.

Modi said he and President Prabowo will hold wide-ranging talks aimed at further expanding bilateral cooperation across several sectors. The two leaders are also scheduled to visit the historic Prambanan Temple complex in Yogyakarta, a visit expected to reinforce the shared cultural heritage and people-to-people ties between the two countries.
During his stay in Indonesia, the Prime Minister will also interact with members of the Indian diaspora.
