PM Modi Pays Tribute to Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee on 125th Birth Anniversary

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid tribute to Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his 125th birth anniversary, describing him as a visionary nationalist whose ideals continue to shape modern India.

Addressing a gathering through a video message, Modi said Dr. Mookerjee dedicated his life to safeguarding India’s unity and integrity. He noted that the Centre is observing a two-year nationwide commemoration of the leader’s 125th birth anniversary, adding that national heroes receive due recognition under a government committed to the principle of “Nation First.”

The Prime Minister credited Dr. Mookerjee with playing a key role in ensuring West Bengal remained part of India during Partition and recalled his opposition to the concepts of “two constitutions, two prime ministers and two flags.” Modi said the abrogation of Article 370 fulfilled Dr. Mookerjee’s vision of complete national integration.

Highlighting Dr. Mookerjee’s contributions to education, Modi praised his efforts as the youngest Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University and said the National Education Policy reflects his vision by promoting education in Indian languages.

The Prime Minister also lauded Dr. Mookerjee’s role as independent India’s first Industry Minister, noting that institutions such as Chittaranjan Locomotive Works, Damodar Valley Corporation, Sindri Fertilizer Plant and IFCI laid the foundation for the country’s long-term industrial and economic growth.
