5 Dead, 20 Rescued in Kolkata Warehouse Collapse; CM Halts TMC-Era Projects Till July 31

Kolkata: At least five workers were killed and around 20 others rescued and admitted to hospitals after a three-storey under-construction warehouse collapsed in Kolkata’s Taratala area on Wednesday.

Following the incident, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari ordered a suspension of all construction projects approved under the previous Trinamool Congress (TMC) administration within the Kolkata Municipal Corporation area until July 31.

Officials said that nearly 15 workers were still feared trapped beneath the massive pile of concrete and steel debris more than nine hours after the building collapsed. Rescue operations were continuing on a war footing, raising concerns that the death toll could increase further.

Teams from the fire department, disaster response forces, police, and other emergency services were engaged in the rescue mission. Injured workers were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the collapse, while rescue efforts remain underway to locate and save those still trapped under the rubble.
